TECNICA BOWEN, HOW IT WORKS

BOWEN TECNIQUE, THE SOFT TOUCH

THE BOWEN TECHNIQUE CONSISTS OF A SERIES OF DELICATE MOVEMENTS, SIMILAR TO LIGHT MASSAGES, CARRIED OUT IN SPECIFIC AREAS OF THE BODY WHICH, BY CREATING A VIBRATION ON TENDONS AND MUSCLES, STIMULATE GENERAL RELAXATION AND ACTIVATE PSYCHOPHYSICAL REBALANCING

In Australia, the place of origin of the Bowen Method, as an aid to alleviate symptoms of physical discomfort, it is considered an effective aid in cases of:

  • Migraine/headache
  • Muscle, bone, joint disorders
  • Neck pain Sports and occupational injuries Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Allergies Stress and tension
  • Digestive system disorders
  • Respiratory disorders
  • Gynecological problems
  • Neuralgia (sciatica, fibromyalgia, trigeminal neuralgia…)
  • Neurodegenerative diseases (Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis…)
  • Pregnancy ailments
  • Repositioning of the breech child Colic in newborns
In Italy, the Bowen Method is practiced by operators of the Bio-Natural Disciplines. Its effectiveness is expressed in stimulating the self-healing resources that every organism, suitably stimulated, is able to put in place. It is therefore not a medical therapy but a method of body-mind energy rebalancing.

WHEN TO PERFORM
A BOWEN SESSION

Each session triggers a deep relaxation of body and mind with the consequent self-production of endorphins that reduce muscle tension and attenuate the perception of pain.
The treatment is gentle, non-invasive and can be performed at any time, both in the presence of discomfort and when you feel balanced, to maintain the well-being of body and mind.

WHY BREAKS ARE IMPORTANT

The movements carried out on particular areas of the body stimulate a response of the nervous system, triggering and facilitating the rebalancing processes. The Bowen operator alternates an active phase (movement) with a passive phase (pause) which gives the body the necessary time to adapt to the stimulus received and promotes the ‘communication-response’ between the receptors of the dermis, the peripheral nervous system and the central nervous system.

This triggers a process of rebalancing the stressed part, thanks to which the body relaxes and the tissues decontract, improving the flow of blood and lymph within the body and promoting easier elimination of toxins. Breaks are therefore a fundamental element of the Bowen Technique and precisely because of their effectiveness they are to be considered an integral part of the process.

HOW THE BOWEN TECHNIQUE WORKS

It was born in Australia in the 50s from the hands of Thomas Ambrose Bowen and was later taught from the 90s by his “boys”, six professionals who had supported him for years during his work. Tom Bowen considered the body as a musical instrument: in order for the sound to be perfect, the instrument must be tuned. The movements made during the session are in fact reminiscent of those of a violinist who tunes his violin with slow transitions, made with attention and care, until he gets the harmonic functioning of the instrument that will play its best melody. During a session it is essential that the operator perceives the recipient’s body as a whole since well-being depends on the harmony between all the elements that compose it. There are hundreds of thousands of signals that travel to and from the brain through the body every second: an overload of information, due to various factors, can send the system into a tailspin.
Tom Bowen observed how very often the body was subject to imbalances and wondered if it was possible to restore them naturally. He noticed that, with appropriate movements made on specific points of the body and then leaving the person in pause for a few minutes, the nervous system responded positively by restoring balance within the body. The basic principle of the Bowen Technique is to let the body do the work while the operator triggers the necessary stress to start the process. The nervous system analyzes the stimulus received and acts to activate the response necessary to restore balance. Often during breaks you may feel continuous heat in the affected area or a slight pressure, as if the operator were still treating it; or you may feel a tingling, some movement or even nothing. One thing is certain: within the ‘whole’ the work has begun.

FEELING GOOD MEANS TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF IN BODY AND SPIRIT

“The whole is greater than the sum of its parts”
Aristotele

This technique, so delicate and at the same time so powerful, is a clear example of this, managing to give a feeling of general well-being that is difficult to describe in words.
